Edible insects, energy drinks and antimicrobial resistance: experience consumer health protection up close
Researching antimicrobial resistance, testing insects as food, examining energy drinks for possible health risks and developing replacement methods for animal testing - the topics at the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) are diverse. The BfR will open its doors to the public on October 7, 2022 from 1 pm until 7 pm. Information booths invite visitors to participate, lectures and guided tours are on the program to give visitors an insight into the BfR. "The BfR's work protects people's health," says Professor Dr. Dr. Andreas Hensel, President of the BfR. "Those interested in how we deal with this every day can take a look through the microscope themselves on the open day, ask questions and learn about BfR's diverse range of tasks."
How do pesticides residues get into our food? What do we have to pay attention to in terms of hygiene in the kitchen, and are certain insects really edible? What is the aim of the BfR MEAL Study? At the numerous information booths, visitors are not only encouraged to test and participate, they also receive helpful information material and have the opportunity to have their questions answered.
In interessing lectures, experts from the BfR will explain how antimicrobial resistance develops and what significance it has for humans.
The human resources department's booth is not only interesting for students - there you can find out about the various career opportunities at the institute.
There will also be a bouncy castle and face painting for our younger guests.
