Research at the Reference Laboratory of the network on genetically modified organisms (GVO)

The Reference Laboratory of the network on genetically modified organisms (GVO) within BfR is a participant in and initiator of national and international research projects aiming to improve existing methods, develop new ones and to embark on new territory in the field of analysis.

The following projects are up and running:

  • Development and validation of methods to detect GMOs as well as animal and plant species in food and feed
  • Investigation of the fate of modified DNA in long-term feeding studies (external cooperation)

Development of new methods

  • to improve the DNA yield in food or feed that only has a low level of nucleic acids and
  • to make possible the parallel analysis of a large number of samples (higher sample throughput, avoidance of single PCR) (EU project Co-Extra)
  • to create new reference materials (plasmid standards)
