The "EU chemicals strategy for sustainability" questions regulatory toxicology as we know it: is it all rooted in sound scientific evidence?

Im Oktober 2020 hat die Europäische Kommission ihre „Chemikalienstrategie für Nachhaltigkeit“ unter dem sog. „europäischen Grünen Deal“ veröffentlicht. In diesem Gasteditorial werden einige fundamentale Aspekte der Strategie aus Sicht einer nationalen EU-Risikobewertungsbehörde diskutiert. Insbesondere wird die zur Begründung der in der Strategie vorgeschlagenen Maßnahmen angeführte wissenschaftliche Evidenz einer kritischen Würdigung unterzogen. In October 2020, the European Commission published its "Chemicals Strategy for Sustainability" under the so-called "European Green Deal". In this guest editorial, some fundamental aspects of the strategy are discussed from the perspective of an EU national risk assessment agency. In particular, the scientific evidence cited to justify the measures proposed in the strategy is critically assessed.
